Daruma amigurumi

Do you know what a Daruma is?
A Daruma is a round Japanese doll modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of the zen sect of Buddhism.
Daruma dolls are usually red, with the face of a bearded man. It’s considered a talisman of good luck and perseverance.
When you buy a Daruma doll the eyes are white, then you have to decide a wish or a goal and you paint one eye on the doll. When you reach your goal, you paint the other eye on the doll.
I really love the Daruma doll, so I decided to make it as amigurumi, for my Japanese amigurumi serie.

The Daruma amigurumi is quite simple.
The shape of the doll is really basic, it’s only a ball with a stand. I crocheted the face, and then I glued the pieces to the face. It isn’t meant as a toy, so you can glue the pieces, too. I suggest to paint the eyes (when you’ve decided what your goal is!) with acrylic paint, so when you finish your doll, you can spread PVA glue on the doll. I’ll make the doll hard and it’ll be easier to paint on it.

So, ready to begin?
